La Cuba
La Cuba, meaning the cube, was originally a 12th century summer palace, surrounded by royal gardens. As a private building, it was a leper colony, and later became a cavalry barracks under the Bourbons. It still operates as military quarters today.

Lo Spasimo
The ruins of Lo Spasimo have a long and intricate history. Construction began in 1506 on a church, but 30 years later the area was quickly converted to a defensive bastion against the threat of invasion from the Turks. Since then, it's been a theatre, a storehouse, a hospital and a shelter for the poor.
